Viv Richards graduated with a degree in Fine Art from Bristol Polytechnic in 1988. After completing a jewellery degree at Central St Martins she worked as a jeweller, selling her work in Liberty, London. Having returned to painting after starting a family, Viv now lives in Cornwall where the coastline offers endless inspiration for her work. Over the years she has developed a style that combines collage and painting. ‘My journey with collage and mixed media started during a college trip to Cornwall, where I began adding the soil and sand around me to my work. I have always loved texture and colour, rust and peeling paint, but since moving to Cornwall, my pictures have been about finding peace and calm in my surroundings. Everyone has a place where they experience peace and this is what I hope that my paintings are, a moment of peace in time. As the paintings develop, the materials can dictate the effect, allowing accidents to happen. I enjoy seeing the random effects of what water or burning will have, mixing up media and experimenting. Each painting is named after the date that I first saw the view, and reflects the importance of every day, and a single moment in time.’ In 2019 two of Viv’s paintings were selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Viv joined Quantum in the autumn of 2026.
