Fletcher Prentice studied painting at Falmouth School of Art in the 1980s and followed a career as a designer on textiles and ceramics before returning to painting full-time in 2007. He has exhibited in London, New York, Stockholm, Oxford and Cambridge. Fletcher’s paintings are a wonderful display of fluidity and assurance with oil combined with a meticulous eye for detail. He is interested in shape, colour and the natural world along with the physical qualities of paint, enjoying its texture as he uses it to build form. His loose painting style describes constantly shifting movement, nature at its best. Fletcher says of his work: ‘I am influenced by the opulence and richness of still lifes from the Dutch Golden Age, as well as by my own garden in Hertfordshire, and the beauty and colours of its flowers. Today more than ever I am passionate about the living environment with all that it offers for humankind’s wellbeing; my paintings are a celebration of our natural world.’
