Alison Rankin lives and works in Sussex and originally trained as a graphic designer. Her work in design, as a photographic props stylist and creating paint effects for interiors has greatly influenced her paintings. Together with a love of antique china and fabrics, all this has led to her present still life style. She says of her work: “I love conveying the weight and texture of fruit and vegetables, creating a classic and sensuous still life feel. Textures, shape and colours are harmoniously combined to elevate the mere domestic to iconic status.” Her idiosyncratic, sometimes almost surreal work extends the still life genre by adding a sense of momentum and dynamic relationships. “I seek to introduce dramatic tension into the tranquil world of still life, like a snapshot in time.” Alison has been exhibiting with Quantum since 2005 at major international art fairs in New York, Toronto, Hong Kong, Singapore, San Francisco and Miami. She has also exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Her paintings are in acrylic on heavyweight Fabriano paper, float mounted in elegant black box frames and behind high quality non-reflective glass.
