Vanessa Whitehouse

Vanessa Whitehouse has exhibited with Quantum Contemporary Art since 2007. She was born in 1964. She has painted all her life, taught initially by her grandfather Alfred Jobson Brown, a well-known artist of his time who worked with the Bloomsbury Group in Sussex. She paints the beaches and fields and orchards of her native Kent. Quantum has taken her work to the Affordable and Glasgow art fairs as well as Art London and fairs in Brussels, Glasgow, Amsterdam, New York and Toronto. She says " My work embraces an extensive range of materials and techniques from found objects on the beach to wood chippings and sawdust from a mighty oak. I prefer the tactile process of applying paint with my hands and mixing colours directly onto the canvas." In 2010 a local farmer lent her a barn to paint in; the result were the giant paintings ( 75 x 63ins ) illustrated below.
