Susanna Stone was born in Glasgow in 1972. She studied at Cheltenham College of Art, graduating in 1994. Whilst at college her work was chosen for the Waterstones student prize and she won the Summerfield Trust Travel Award. She has travelled extensively since and used the sketches and photographs from her trips to inspire her paintings. She achieves the worn and weathered look of her subjects by using a mixture of media including oil paints on rubbed-down plaster-of-Paris and metallic dusts. She lives and works in London.
