Mark Demsteader was born in 1963 in Manchester. He studied at the Slade School of Art but is mainly self-taught. He spent ten years as a butcher ( which gave him a fascination with anatomy ) before turning full-time to art and has exhibited his work extensively all over the UK and in Dublin, New York, Santa Monica California. Of his work he says " My current work is based upon close observation of the figure and gestures created when shadow and light combine."
