Emmie van Biervliet

Emmie van Biervliet was born in 1983. She studied art at Nottingham Trent University, graduating in 2006. Since then she has exhibited in Oxford ( including Blackwells, the Jam Factory and Summerfield School ), Bristol, Nottingham and London. In 2010 she won the Diana Brooks Award at the Art for Youth Exhibtion at the Royal College of Art. She is a dynamic, emerging artist who lives and works in Oxford.
She says her work " Aims to capture the vibrancy, chaos and beauty of distant cultures. Examines the memories and details left by people who are no longer there but have somehow left a ghostly presence or part of their character ingrained in the interior and exterior of buildings. "
Magic realism is an integral part of her paintings. These are formed not only through the use of paint but often using layers of paper, coffee, gold leaf, old circuit boards, spices, newspaper cuttings and materials collected during her travels.
Quantum is pleased to be exhibiting Emmie's work for the first time at the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea Park in March 2011.
